Thirty-four percent of Alma students participate in intercollegiate athletics. Alma College competes at the NCAA Division III level as a member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the oldest existing athletic conference in the nation. Alma offers 22 varsity sports—11 for the women and 11 for the men—including four sports that debuted in 2011–12: women’s lacrosse and bowling and men’s lacrosse and wrestling.

Dennis Griffin

Dennis Griffin

Denny Griffin moved into the head softball coaching position in 1989 after two years as assistant coach. In his 23-year span as head coach, he has amassed an overall record of 704-240.

His career wins rank him in the top ten of the most winningest Division III coaches of all-time.

In addition to his softball duties, Griffin is the program director for the Athletic Training Education Program. He teaches clinical classes in the Integrative Physiology and Health Science Department.
